The number of teams participating in this World Cup was increased to 16. This tournament is the biggest tournament ever remembered by Nepali sports and this is why Nepal has participated in it historically.

Nepal's performance was not limited to participation only, it also performed excellently by winning everyone's hearts. Again, the team participating in this World Cup is called the Golden Generation of Nepali cricket history. The team itself was led by Paras Khadka. While Nepal was presenting its challenge in this World Cup, the whole country was immersed in cricket. It was during this World Cup that Nepali cricket reached the peak of popularity.

In the first phase of the tournament, eight teams participated, which were divided into two groups. Bangladesh from Group 'A' and Netherlands from Group 'B' advanced to the next phase. Nepal had won two matches in the league phase, against Hong Kong and Afghanistan.
