Kathmandu Gorkhaz moved closer to the playoffs after defeating Karnali Yaks by 5 wickets in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket on Sunday, thanks to brilliant batting from Gerhard Erasmus and John Simpson.

 

Erasmus and Simpson shared a partnership of 86 runs off 45 balls as Kathmandu chased down the target of 150 with 155 runs to spare at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium, Kirtipur.

 

Simpson was out when Kathmandu needed 1 run to win. Nandan Yadav dismissed Rashid Khan off the next ball. Bhim Sarki hit a six two balls later to score the winning run.

 

Simpson scored 41 runs off 21 balls, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. Player of the Match Erasmus scored an unbeaten 43 off 33 balls. Namibia captain Erasmus, who is leaving for Dubai to play the UAE's IL T20, hit 2 fours and a six.

 

Even though Akash Tripathi was dismissed for 8 runs off 11 balls, Kathmandu scored 46 runs in the first 6 overs of the power play. Ben Charlesworth hit 20 runs including 3 sixes off Karnali captain Sompal Kami in a single over. Charlesworth scored 34 runs off 21 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes.

Erasmus and Simpson played openly when Milind Kumar was in serious trouble after being run out for 15 runs. Karnali's Nandan took 3 wickets for 35 runs in 4 overs and Pawan Saraf took 1 wicket.

This is Kathmandu's third consecutive win. Kathmandu has climbed to second place after winning its fourth win in 6 matches. Kathmandu has climbed to second place by surpassing Biratnagar in net run rate. Karnali suffered its fourth defeat in 5 matches.

Earlier, after Gulshan Jha's aggressive innings, Karnali, who had won the toss and elected to bat, had scored 149 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.

Karnali had made a very poor start. Captain Karan KC had cut and bowled Priyank Panchal in the first ball of the match. William Bosisto was run out for 1 run in the last ball of the same over.

Nazibullah Zadran could only score 12 runs in 14 balls . Sompal was also dismissed for 6 runs . Gulshan shared a crucial partnership of 55 runs in 28 balls with Deepak Dumre . Deepak scored 10 runs in 12 balls . Gulshan remained unbeaten on 49 runs . He hit 6 fours and 3 sixes in 22 balls .

 

 

 

Rashid took 2 wickets for 27 runs in 4 overs . Karan, Milind and Santosh took 1 wicket each . Karan scored 26 runs in 4 overs, Milind scored 24 runs in 4 overs and Santosh scored 22 runs in 3 overs
