Biratnagar Kings' winning streak in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2025 came to a complete halt on Wednesday after Chitwan Rhinos' Ranjit Kumar took five wickets. Chitwan won by 48 runs at the Tribhuvan University Cricket International Stadium in Kirtipur.
Chasing a challenging target, Biratnagar could only score 126 runs after losing all their wickets in 16.5 overs. With this result, Chitwan has four points from three matches. Biratnagar is on six points. Biratnagar has suffered its first defeat.
Biratnagar was forced to play under pressure after losing four wickets in the power-play. Moreover, the team lost five wickets while scoring 39 runs. Sam Hazlett scored 22 runs in 11 balls. Similarly, Merchant de Lange scored 39 runs in 22 balls.
Towards the end, Pratish GC added 30 runs in 12 balls. Ranjit, on the other hand, gave away only 21 runs in an excellent performance of five wickets. This is the first five-wicket performance of the season. Similarly, Kamal Airee took two wickets.
Earlier, with the help of Ravi Bopara's half-century, Chitwan had scored 174 runs in 20 overs after losing five wickets. Ravi scored the highest 65 runs. He faced 38 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes.
This was Bopara's third consecutive half-century this season. He had also scored half-centuries against Karnali Yaks and Lumbini Lions earlier. Ravi shared a 56-run partnership with captain Kushal Malla for the fifth wicket. Kushal remained unbeaten on 20 runs.
Chitwan did not get off to a good start. They had already lost both openers by the time they scored 24 runs. Of these, Deepak Bohra scored five runs and David Malan contributed 17 runs. Dev Khanal was caught by Sandeep for 28 runs.
Sam Hazlett took a brilliant catch of him near the boundary. Jaib then scored 32 runs off 30 balls. His innings included a four and a six.
