Pokhara Avengers defeated Biratnagar Kings in a 'tie' match in Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket after Ramon Reefer's excellent all-round performance. Biratnagar Kings and Pokhara Avengers could not get a clear result in Thursday's match and after the match was tied, the result was decided in the super over.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Biratnagar lost 7 wickets and scored 139 runs in the scheduled 20 overs. In response, Pokhara lost 6 wickets and scored 139 runs. While Pokhara scored 18 runs without losing a wicket in the Super Over, Biratnagar managed to score only 5 runs despite not losing any wicket. Reefer bowled brilliantly and did not give Biratnagar any opportunity for boundaries. In the last over of the
game, the ref was also covered. Pokhara needed 14 runs in the last over to win at the Trivi Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. After Narayan Joshi took 1 run in the second ball of the over, Reefer, who came on strike, hit a six in the third ball. After hitting a six on the last ball of the match, the score was tied after failing to score any runs in the next two balls.
It was Reefer who scored 17 out of 18 runs scored by Pokhara in the Super Over without loss. He hit Biratnagar Kings captain Sandeep Lamichhane for a six in the first two balls and a four in the fourth ball.
Opener Andries Gaus scored the most 39 runs from Pokhara. He played 27 balls and hit 7 fours . Another opener Dinesh Kharel hit 1 six and got out for 11 runs. Captain Kushal Bhurtel scored 31 runs from 34 balls with 2 fours and 1 six.
Pokhara lost consecutive wickets after Zain Malik was bowled by Pratish for 4 runs. Kushal and Tritraj Das (0) were dismissed by Chris Soule in consecutive balls. Pratish bowled Michael Lisk for 11 runs. Pratish spent 18 runs in 4 overs and took 4 wickets.
Earlier, Biratnagar gave Pokhara a target of 140 runs in the important innings of Scott Edwards. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Biratnagar lost 7 wickets and scored 139 runs in the scheduled 20 overs. Netherlands captain Edwards, who is playing his first match in the NPL, scored 45 runs in 35 balls.
He was placed in the playing 11 of Biratnagar in place of Akib Ilyas and hit 5 fours . Lokesh Bam, the opening batsman from Viranagar, was also taking the responsibility of wicket-keeping . But Bam could not do justice to his performance in the additional role . Edwards arrived in Kathmandu just two days ago for the NPL.
Batting at number four, he shared an important partnership of 43 runs in 5 overs with Canada's captain Nicholas Kritan. Kritan scored 19 runs with 1 six off 16 balls. Chris Soule 7, Deepak Bohra out for 4 runs .
opener Martin Guptill could score only 5 runs. Sagar Dhakal bowled him after playing 14 balls. Lokesh, who hit 2 fours and 1 six in the first over, scored 26 runs in 16 balls. He played a total of 16 balls and hit 2 fours and a six. Naren Bhatt was dismissed for 4 runs. Basir Ahmed played 21 off 20 balls and Pratish JC played 1 ball and remained unbeaten on 4 runs .
Sagar and Ramon Reefer took 2 wickets each from Pokhara. Sagar spent only 15 runs in 4 overs while Reefer spent 33 runs. Captain Kushal Bhurtel and Dinesh Kharel got 1 wicket each.
Pokhara has maintained the possibility of reaching the playoffs by getting the second victory in the fifth match. Biratnagar are all but out of the playoff race with their second defeat in five games.
