Nepali shooting athlete Sushmita Nepal is going to play in the Paris Olympics. She has secured a spot for the 33rd Summer Olympics to be held in Paris, the capital of France, from July 26 to August 11.
Sushmita is the sixth athlete from Nepal selected for the Paris Olympics. Earlier, Santu Shrestha from table tennis has passed the South Asian qualifying stage and has been selected for the Olympics. Similarly, Prince Dahal from badminton, Duwana Lama and Alexander Shah from swimming and Santoshi Shrestha from athletics have confirmed their participation in the Olympics through wild cards. Nepal started participating in shooting since 1988 Seoul Olympics. Since then, it has participated in all the Olympics except Rio 2016.
The Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) said on Friday that Sushmita's participation has been confirmed. The NOC and Nepal Shooting Association had proposed a wild card for Sushmita to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). According to NOC, he has been given universality quota. Sushmita will compete in women's 10m air rifle. Summita qualified for the quota as she completed the required minimum score. 24-year-old shooter Summita scored 616.2 in the 10m air rifle in the Asian Championship qualification in Jakarta, Indonesia. She was ranked 50th in it. She scored 602.5 in the World Cup Shooting Championship in Jakarta last year. She was ranked 53rd in this.
Sushmita participated in the 19th Asian Games. Sushmita and Shlisa Bhandari competed in 10m air rifle in Hangzhou. Shlisa was ranked 47th with a score of 616.9 and Sushmita was ranked 58th with a score of 607.9. Sushmita has also played in the 2018 Jakarta Asiad. She scored 587.2 at that time. Sushmita was ranked 46th. Previous Olympics Tokyo 2020 was played by Kalpana Pariyar. Kalpana scored 616.8 while competing in 10m air rifle. In the 25th edition of the national shooting competition held on Thursday, Sushmita, who played from Wagmati province, won double silver. She won silver in individual and mixed team.
