If necessary, we will interrogate the CIAA for not just 5 hours, but 5 years: Prime Minister Shah

Prime Minister and senior leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Balendra Shah has given an explanation for summoning officials of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority to Singha Durbar. Addressing the inaugural session of the RSS in Bharatpur on Sunday, Prime Minister Shah said that it is necessary to find an excuse for the misuse of government property. He said, 'Our party is a development party. It is not a party that seeks excuses for old things. If we have to find an excuse, if government property has been misused in the past, then it is necessary to find an excuse.'

He then said that he would question the CIAA not only for 5 hours, but also for 5 years if necessary. 'For that, the CIAA should be questioned for 5 hours, and if consultation is required, we will consult the CIAA for 5 years,' he said.

Officials from the secretariat of Prime Minister Balendra Shah had put pressure on the constitutional body, the CIAA, saying that it had not intensified the investigation into the passport procurement contract irregularities for a long time.

The Prime Minister's Office summoned CIAA Chief Commissioner Prem Rai to the Prime Minister's Office in Singha Durbar for 'discussions'. According to officials, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the passport purchase contract and the irregularities therein and the investigation being conducted by the CIAA.

Seeing the possibility of discussing this issue, Chief Commissioner Rai had held internal discussions with some officials of the commission on whether it would be appropriate to inform the executive branch about the investigation being conducted by the constitutional body. But after pressure, Rai reached the Prime Minister's Office with some employees.
