Era of protecting democratic achievements and new possibilities: President

President Ram Chandra Poudel has expressed confidence that the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21 will redefine the journey of development, prosperity, social justice and progress and take it to new heights.

Addressing the nation today on the eve of the House of Representatives elections, he said that the election is an age-old need to protect and promote recent achievements and move towards new possibilities. President Poudel said, 'The election is going to be held as a way out of a complex situation in our political history. This election is not just a constitutional process to select representatives but also a historic opportunity to make the journey of the federal democratic republic more comprehensive, credible and strong. Therefore, making this election a success is our common task and historical responsibility.'

He expressed confidence that the election will make democratic practice more credible and mature. 'The country has achieved significant achievements in the past few years. After a long struggle and sacrifice, we have established a democratic republic. Everyone knows that today, an inclusive state structure has been ensured through the new constitution,' President Poudel said, 'This election will fulfill the dreams of the previous generation who fought and sacrificed against autocracy for a long time and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in it, the demands of the young people for good governance, transparency and accountability.'

Stating that the federal system of governance has been institutionalized and powers have been delegated to the provincial and local levels, President Poudel said that efforts have been made to strengthen the rights of senior citizens, people with disabilities, Dalits, women and disadvantaged communities by expanding social security programs.

'In the last decade, the country has been moving forward with significant progress in education, health, roads, energy and communication infrastructure. These achievements have not been achieved easily, they are the result of the sacrifices and unwavering faith of the people, as well as their active participation,' he said in his address.

Pointing out the need for more work in the areas of good governance, social justice, accountable governance and service delivery, President Poudel expressed confidence that the upcoming elections will institutionalize that sentiment and provide new energy to democracy.

He urged all political parties, candidates, civil society, media and concerned bodies to remain fully committed to conducting the election process in a peaceful, free, fair and fear-free environment. President Poudel emphasized that while differences of opinion are natural, tolerance, dignity and respect for the rule of law should be our common values. He said, 'Come, let us all participate in this historic election with the determination to protect democracy, promote social justice and further strengthen the journey of development.'
