The CPN (UML) has decided to field Dilip Kumar Bagadiya (Agarwal), the mayor of Rangeli Municipality, in Morang Constituency No. 2 for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

The decision to select Agrawal as the candidate was taken at a secretariat meeting held at the party's central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, on Saturday. A UML leader said that giving a ticket to Agrawal, who has led Rangeli Municipality for two terms, is a sign that the UML's leadership, which is considered successful at the local level, will be established in the federal parliament.

UML leaders say that Agrawal was put forward based on local development, administrative experience and his hold on the organization. He was elected as a central member at the recently concluded 11th general convention of UML.

After getting the parliamentary ticket, Bagadiya said that he would resign as the mayor soon. 'I will resign soon after consulting the Election Commission,' he said.

Earlier, three names were recommended from Morang-2, including outgoing House of Representatives member Rishikesh Pokharel, Mayor Agrawal and former National Assembly member Nainkala Ojha. Ultimately, the party has claimed that the continuity of executive leadership at the local level and public support are more important than parliamentary experience.

UML has already finalized candidates in most of the six constituencies in Morang district. UML has already fielded Ghanshyam Khatiwada in constituency number 1, Dilip Rai in constituency number 3, and Jeevan Ghimire in constituency number 4, but is yet to decide on constituencies number 5 and 6.
