Newly elected UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that the favoritism seen during the election will not continue.
Reacting to his election as general secretary, Pokharel said that all leaders and activists would unite and work together to build the party. "It is natural that the issue of partisanship arises during elections," Pokharel said, "but that will not happen after the elections. Now we will all build the party together." He explained the competition within the party as a democratic exercise and said that it will further strengthen the organization. Pokharel said that the new leadership of KP Oli, elected at the general convention, will work towards making UML a decisive political force by facing the contemporary challenges of the country. General Secretary Pokharel was competing from the chairman KP Sharma Oli panel. He was elected with 1,228 votes. His opponent, Surendra Prasad Pandey, got 999 votes. Pandey, on the other hand, had entered the competition from the Ishwor Pokharel panel.
