UML Vice President Ashtalakshmi Shakya and Yubaraj Gyawali have announced that they will no longer be party office bearers. At the central committee meeting held at Bhrikutimandap on Sunday, Vice President Shakya and Gyawali announced that they will not be running for any office bearers in the 11th general convention.

Both have announced that they will not contest the election, saying that others in the party should also get an opportunity. Shakya was elected as the vice-president in the 9th general convention of the UML and was re-elected as the vice-president in the 10th general convention.

She was in charge of Bagmati Province in the party for almost 7 years and is also the first female Chief Minister of Nepal. She became the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province. She has been active in politics since 2028.

Similarly, Gyawali was elected as the vice-president in the 9th general convention in 2071 BS. He was also elected as the vice-president for the second time in the 10th general convention held in Sauraha in 2078 BS. He also became a member of the Constituent Assembly from the UML on a proportional basis in 2070 BS.

Gyawali, who has been active in communist politics since 2026 BS, has held various levels of the party, including the head of the organization department.
