Political parties are running away without answering the people's questions, which is creating an inevitable change in public opinion. Today's citizens are calm, but not ignorant, silent, but not incompetent.
What you should know
The traditional indices or magic numbers of economists cannot change the reality of human life. Change can only come about through the development of the capacity to address the reality of human poverty. Commentary: Beyond differentiation, innovative thinking and working styles within reality are the indicators of change.
The democratic system aimed to transform Nepal into a developed country within a few years by changing the model of freedom and development. Many people, regardless of the sacrifice of their lives, worked to establish a democratic system of governance. But the resulting system legitimized the political status of the elite. The roots of democracy were cut off in the dirty game of power.
Democratic values and people's rights have not been protected in the dirty game of power. Corruption and irresponsibility of political leadership have become a serious challenge for Nepali society. Economic progress and the vision of a prosperous society have not been fully achieved. Even though the language style of political leadership has changed, the reality of people's lives remains the same. Time is demanding the reckoning of this practice today.
Many treaties and agreements have been signed for development. Understandings have also been reached on large projects with foreign investment. But corruption worth billions is taking place due to political influence and power. The burden of debt on the country is increasing.
Those involved in corruption cases worth billions rarely come under the purview of the law. The people, on the other hand, are subject to many legal constraints. Now is the time to give justice with open eyes.
Democratic values are being mocked by those who consider themselves the guardians of democracy. In a democratic country, the right to information is a natural right. The media is shut down where the right to information should be protected and defended. Criticism is considered hostility, not disagreement. The people's questions are ignored, and those who raise questions are considered enemies. A weak regime is always afraid of the truth.
In a democratic country, the people are the rulers and the representatives elected by the people are the servants of the people. Therefore, those who lead the state at any time should serve as servants of the people. Otherwise, the people will hold each other accountable.
There is a lack of resources needed for agriculture, industry or innovation. Every year, billions of budgets are frozen. Billions of budgets are corrupted. Entrepreneurs themselves are caught in distrust, administrative complexity and policy uncertainty. How can we believe that a leadership that cannot protect, encourage and provide a working environment for its own citizens will bring in foreign investment? In this way, not only has there been a direct attack on democracy, but the dignity of the Nepali people has also been humiliated in the eyes of the world community.
Not only have economic indicators in the country been weak, the combined result of the failure of governance capacity, directionlessness of policy making and the moral bankruptcy of political leadership has also been exposed. For years, the same thing has been repeated from tea shops to parliament – the policy is good but the implementation is weak. But what is the truth? The policy itself is made in a hurry. And how long will the people pay the price?
The political leadership needs to understand that the people are not always going to be mute spectators. The way political parties are running away without answering the people's questions, it is creating an inevitable change in public opinion. Today's citizens are calm, but not ignorant. Silent, but not incompetent.
The question today is not who will lead, but how can they regain the people's trust. There is only one criterion for leadership – courage, truth and efficiency. A country is not built by speeches, but by policies, readiness, transparency and responsibility.
