The Election Commission has expressed its objection to any kind of opinion poll conducted before the election and the announcement of winners and losers based on it.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari said that such activities are against the law and the code of conduct and made it clear that the commission is determined to put an end to it forever. He said that the commission is sensitive to the practice of announcing results from outside without voters being allowed to cast their votes.
He informed that the commission has already held talks with the Press Council Nepal on this issue and some issues have even reached the court. Bhandari also said that this issue becomes complicated on the eve of every election.
‘Voice surveys cannot be conducted, the law prohibits it, the code of conduct prohibits it. But if a media outlet forcibly conducts a vote survey and announces that so-and-so won and so-and-so lost, what is the role of the Election Commission?’
He warned everyone not to get involved in such activities, saying that no one can say that they do not accept what is prohibited by law.
