The Election Commission has called on political parties or candidates participating in the 2082 House of Representatives elections not to use children in their election campaigns.

The Commission issued a statement on Monday urging parties or candidates not to use children in carrying their flags or election symbols, cultural programs, rallies, activities against certain parties or candidates, and displaying vests/T-shirts/logos with flags or election symbols.

The Commission has called on parties or candidates not to use children in their election campaigns and to organize election-related programs near schools during school hours, creating obstacles in educational work.

The Commission has called on political parties or candidates not to use children in election campaigns, cultural programs, rallies, activities against certain parties or candidates, and to refrain from such activities, saying that it has received complaints and grievances regarding the fact that parties or candidates have involved children in their election campaigns and organized election-related programs near schools during school hours, creating obstacles in educational work.

The Election Code of Conduct, 2082, has a provision in Sub-section (1) of Section 13, Clause (k), that ‘children shall not be used or caused to be used in election campaigns, public meetings and processions’, according to a statement issued by the Commission’s spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai. It has also been reminded that in case of violation of the election code of conduct, the Commission can impose a fine of up to one hundred thousand rupees or take action up to and including cancellation of candidacy.

'As using children in election campaigning is against the Constitution of Nepal, the Children Act and the Election Code of Conduct, all political parties, candidates and voters are requested not to use children in any way during any political activities and election campaigning and not to do anything that affects the education of children,' the statement said.
