20 polling stations in Surkhet have been placed on the list of highly sensitive. A total of 142 polling stations and 305 polling stations have been identified in the district, which has two House of Representatives constituencies. According to the District Security Committee, the remaining 87 sites have been considered sensitive and 35 sites as normal polling stations.
There are 9 polling stations in Simta and Chingad rural municipalities under Constituency No. 1, which are highly sensitive polling stations. Similarly, there are 11 polling stations in Panchpuri Municipality, Choukune and Barahatal rural municipalities in Constituency No. 2, informed SP Sudhir Raj Shahi, Chief of the District Police Office, Surkhet.
‘The areas have been classified considering distance, remoteness and the number of incidents that have occurred in the past,’ Shahi said, ‘Now we, along with the chief of the security agency, will visit the polling stations and inspect them, make improvements and coordinate between the parties so that the election can be held normally.’ According to Shahi, monitoring has already begun at polling stations that are considered sensitive.
935 police, 374 Nepali Army, 248 Armed Police Force and 1,840 election police will be deployed in Surkhet for the election. Nearly 2,000 employees are being deployed for election purposes. Out of 248,943 voters, there are 122,902 voters in Constituency No. 1 and 126,041 voters in Constituency No. 2.
