Police have tightened security arrangements in Bhaktapur, focusing on the 11th general convention of the CPN-UML, which began on Saturday.
The security arrangements have been tightened to prevent any untoward incident at the general convention, which is being held in a different situation after the Gen-G movement, said Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ishwar Karki. ‘A separate plan has been made and police teams have been deployed in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts as per the decision of the District Security Committee,’ he told Kantipur. ‘More than 1,500 security personnel have been deployed from the Nepal Police alone.’
Stating that there are three ‘mega events’ on Saturday alone, namely the UML general convention in the Valley, Sakela in Tundikhel and the Nepal Premier League (NPL) file game in Kirtipur, he said, ‘We have tightened security arrangements targeting everyone.’ The screening of those entering the UML general convention has been tightened and metal detectors have also been used.
The police have also deployed dogs trained by the Nepal Police’s dog branch to the general convention venue for screening. The police say that dogs expert in searching for explosives have been deployed. ‘We are conscious that there is no lapse in security,’ said AIG Karki.
According to him, only one service lane has been allowed to be used for the procession so that there is no inconvenience in traffic movement, and efforts have been made to organize parking. ‘In Bhaktapur, arrangements have been made to park vehicles in 5 places in the east, west, north and south,’ he said. ‘If that happens, it will be easier for them to check, and it will be easier for them.’
The Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department teams are also mobilized in their own way for the security of the general convention.
The UML has informed that it has mobilized 10,000 volunteers for the security of the general convention. The UML has claimed to hold the biggest rally ever. It has brought vehicle reserve workers from all over the country to Kathmandu.
Chairman KP Sharma Oli will inaugurate the program of the general convention.
Leaders including Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Nepali Communist Party leader Dev Gurung, National Independent Party working president DP Aryal, RPP president Rajendra Lingden, Janata Samajwadi Party president Upendra Yadav and others are scheduled to extend their best wishes at the general convention.
