The government has declared Ilam as a disaster prone area. The cabinet meeting held on Thursday at Singh Darbar has decided to declare Ilam as a disaster-prone district for three months.
After the incessant rains on Saturday and Sunday, the landslides caused huge loss of life in Ilam. There are preliminary reports that 276 families have been displaced.
132 houses have been completely damaged while 401 houses have been partially damaged. It has been confirmed that 39 people have died in the disaster. 37 people were buried in the landslide and 2 people were swept away by the flood.
