Born on 7 November 2056, she grew up cutting grass in the village of Swasthani. A hockey player since childhood, she never came second in school. With a rebellious nature, she would speak up and step forward to help.
Swasthani is the younger daughter of father Rajesh and mother Balkumari Khadka. After completing her schooling, she was studying law and used to work in a parlor in the capital to earn money for her studies. "She dreamed of becoming a lawyer since childhood and was studying law," said her elder sister Taradevi Basnet. 40-year-old Mahendra Periyar was a wage labourer. On August 24, 40-year-old Mahendra Periyar of Chandragiri-5 in Kathmandu left home after eating. His relative Ganesh Pariyar said that after he was not found until late in the evening, the search began.
Mahendra was found burnt in the building of Vishal Group in Chandragiri during the investigation. We found it only on August 26. The face and body were completely burnt. Chandragiri-5 ward president Rajendra Maharjan said that Mahendra is the only support of his old mother. He was taking care of his mother by doing daily wage labor in sewing and house construction. They have a house in my neighborhood. There is no one to take care of the mother after the death of her son," said Maharjan.
Mahendra participated in the demonstration on 24 August after the death of a youth in the Gen-G movement. They have left the work of sewing and weaving. Saroj Khatri, 26, of Bhumlu rural municipality-4 in Kavre was the eldest son of the house. His family came to Kathmandu in 2059. Saroj's own earnings were running the household expenses. He was raising the school fees of his siblings and the medical expenses of his parents.
A video of the first day of the Zen-G movement went viral on social media. After its impact, Saroj participated in the movement on August 24. On the same day, Ganga Dahal, daughter of former Prime Minister and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, was burnt to death at her house in Nakhipot during the agitation.
On that day, for the last time, he had a phone conversation with his mother Sarita Khatri around 1:30. At that time he said that he was in Satdobato. He told his mother that he would come for dinner. However, the person who woke up in the morning went down never to return. When he left the house, father Dharmaraj had gone to the market. Because of the burns, Dharmaraj could not even see his son's face properly.
Saroj was a dozer driver. According to his mother Sarita, he used to talk less with his brother, sister and father and more with his mother at home. She says that she did not know about the fight till now. His family has been renting a farm in Sunakothi of Lalitpur and living in a terrace. Mother is suffering from vein disease since covid. Father Dharmaraj has been suffering from rheumatic disease for 12 years. Dharmaraj passed away due to rheumatic disease last year. Now most of the farming is done by farmers.
Mother Sarita says, 'Jen-ji's agitation affected her son like others.' He became uncontactable after 2 o'clock on the day of the incident. In the evening, mother and daughter left the house to look for him. Mother Sarita says, "I couldn't sleep that night because of anxiety." We went to look for it at night, but could not find it. Stayed overnight to see if he would return. But, he did not return. On the morning of August 25, mother and daughter went to Sumeru Hospital to look for Saroj. Later he found out that a person was trapped in Dahal's house. "I had no idea that it would be like that," Sarita said. Saroj's dead body was found at the scene. The back of the body was completely burnt. The part below the knee was burnt to ashes. "I recognized my son as soon as I saw the round head and the jantar he was wearing," said mother Sarita.
