UML's legislative convention ended on Sunday, paving the way for KP Sharma Oli to become president for the third term. The convention removed the 70-year-old age limit of office bearers and the rule that they cannot serve more than two terms in the executive position from the draft of the new statute and ensured the legal provision that Oli will be the president again.

The first legislative convention held in August 2078 passed the provision of 70 years of age limit for party leadership and no more than two terms in the executive position . But the second Legislative Congress which lasted for three days in Godavari amended it and removed it.

In the central committee meeting held in the first week of July, there was a demand to open the way for the transfer of leadership to the second generation by maintaining the age limit of 70 years and two terms for the leaders, but this arrangement was removed from the new draft law . The draft passed by the Central Committee has been passed by the convention. The new provision has also opened opportunities for leaders who have exceeded 70 and who have been in executive positions for two or more times. Although discussions were divided into 10 groups to give suggestions on

reports, the suggestions were not included in writing . The Congress representative suggested that the age limit of leaders should be 70 years, and the provision of two terms would transfer the leadership to the youth, but it was not heard . Instead, the convention has made it easier for Oli and other leaders who have passed the age of 70 and have been president for two terms. This decision has also opened the way for senior vice president Ishwar Pokharel, vice president Yuvraj Gyawali and other leaders for leadership.

Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali says that with Oli's policies in UML, the party has ensured that he will be the leader from the upcoming 11th Congress. "In a way, the question of the leadership to be elected in the eleventh congress has been resolved by this legislative convention, the ambivalence seen somewhere about the policies and leadership of KP Oli has been resolved," he says, "the leaders had their opinions in the report and the constitution, there were no different opinions". Convention delegates were informally instructed to hold the view that Oli should be the 'optional' president for the upcoming convention. In the group discussion, most of the representatives are of the opinion that Oli should be the unopposed president, according to Rajendra Gautam, head of the publicity department.

Similarly, there has been a discussion about holding the 11th Congress within six months. General Secretary Shankar Pokharel had said last week that after the end of the legislative convention, he should go to the convention to select the leadership. The UML legislative convention has unanimously passed the political and organizational report. UML has decided that the stance taken by Prime Minister Oli during his visit to China last week regarding the country's nationality, sovereignty and borders has raised the head of the country .

It is stated in the statement issued by the Head of Publicity Department Rajendra Gautam after the convention.

The foreign policy mentioned by Oli in the political report is the conclusion of the convention to strengthen the country's foreign relations. In the resolution, internal unity is emphasized, claiming that a strong and stable government with a majority under the leadership of UML is the national demand of today. Prohibition of dissenting opinion

Even though the issue of ex-president Vidya Bhandari's membership dispute was raised in the convention, the previous decision of the central committee that the ex-president should not enter into active politics has been approved . After banning Bhandari's membership, senior vice-president Ishwar Pokharel, vice-president Yuvraj Gyawali and Surendra Pandey filed their dissenting opinion in writing at the secretariat for discussion in the Legislative Assembly. But it was not discussed in the convention.

Permanent committee member Karn Thapa's dissenting opinion was shared in the closed session, but he was prevented from speaking. If Bhandari's membership is renewed, there is a possibility that he will be a competitor for the chairmanship in the upcoming convention.

Even though she is not a candidate for the president, Bhandari has started telling the senior leaders of the party that she will be a candidate for the president.
