The local administration has issued a curfew in four districts, including Kathmandu, after the anti-corruption 'Zen-G' demonstration on Monday got out of control.
District Administration Kathmandu has imposed a curfew from 12.30 noon till 10.00 pm in the vicinity of Maitighar, Baneshwar, Tinkune and Shankhamul.
According to section 6 (3 a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, the curfew order has been issued by the administration offices. In Kathmandu, it has been ordered that gatherings, processions and demonstrations will not be allowed until 10 pm from Baneshwar Chowk through West Everest Hotel to Bijibazar Bridge, East Meen Bhavan, Shantinagar to Tinkune Chowk, North through Iplex Mall to Ratna Rajya Secondary School, South Shankhmool and down to Shankhamool Bridge.
Curfew has been imposed in Sunsari's Itahari after the protest turned violent on Monday afternoon. Chief District Officer Dharmendra Mishra informed that a curfew order has been issued in the area around the main square of Itahari from 3.30 pm in Sunsari district administration office until further notice. According to him, curfew has been imposed from the Nepali Army barracks to Paruhang Chowk on the north side, Milan Chowk to Jutvikas on the east side, Abuse of Authority Investigation Office South, Transport Office, Sathi Petol Pump, Pushpalal Chowk on the bus park area and on the west side from Kalanki Mode to Janata Basti area. According to the administration, it is not allowed to travel in that area, any kind of assembly, procession, demonstration meeting, meeting and encirclement.
Indefinite curfew has also been imposed in Pokhara in Kaski to control the situation after the clash during the demonstration of Gen-G. Processions, sit-ins and demonstrations have been prohibited so that no more than five people can gather inside the four forts from 2 pm. Waichowk on the east, Baidam's Fistel Gate on the west, Kaski on the north and Rashtra Bank on the south are restricted areas. The situation became tense in the afternoon after Gen-G protesters surrounded the Chief Minister's office of Gandaki province. The police dispersed the protesters with tear gas, bullets and water cannons.
After the agitation started in Butwal and Bhairahawa of Rupandehi, the district administration office has issued a curfew from 4 pm to 10 pm on Monday. Chief District Officer of Rupandehi, Tokaraj Pandey, has issued a curfew order in Butwal and Bhairahawa areas so that no one can hold gatherings, processions, demonstrations, gatherings, meetings and encirclement within the designated limits of four forts. According to the district administration, curfew has been imposed in Butwal area up to Dhago Karna Bridge in the east, Belbas Chowk in the west, Chidiya Khola in the north and Mangalpur in the south. In Bhairahawa, curfew has been imposed up to Rohini Khola bridge in the east, Bethari bridge in the west, Buddha Chowk in the north and Meudihwa in the south. In addition, the administration has informed that any demonstration and gathering project has been banned up to 100 meters to the right and left of the Butwal-Belhia trade route.
