Although it is assumed that Nepalis were affected by the landslide in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India, it has not been officially confirmed. The Nepali Embassy in Delhi said that all the details could not be received as the rescue work is still going on at the scene.

Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the Embassy Surendra Thapa said that they are also in constant contact through diplomatic channels and directly with the police administration of Uttarakhand. Two incidents have taken place in Uttarakhand.

A large landslide occurred in Uttarkashi on July 20, and the next day on July 21, people were swept away in a place called Khatola in Paudigarhwal. The Indian police have confirmed that 5 Nepali citizens of Bardia are missing in the Paudi Garhwal landslide. Also, the embassy is informed that 4 Nepalis were found injured there.

However, he said that no official information has been received so far about whether Nepalis fell or not in the severe landslide in Dharali of Uttarkashi district. He informed that since there have been reports of missing people from some municipalities in Nepal, they are coordinating with the police on the basis of those reports.

He said that there is a challenge in rescue because there is a large pile of mud and stones. We have also tried to go to the scene. However, the Uttarakhand Prahar administration has said that there is a problem to arrive immediately as the roads are blocked,' he said, 'rescue and ration water are being delivered there by helicopter.' SSP Prakash Malla, Consul of the Embassy, Nepal Police said that none of the 2 people who were rescued and found dead were Nepali citizens. As some houses including 15/20 hotels were buried, it is estimated that a large number of people may have been there.

'As Nepali workers may be working there, Nepalese citizens may also have been affected by the landslide,' he said, 'but, there is no definite information.' He said that it would take more time to complete the rescue work as there are also challenges in the rescue. The embassy issued a press release on Friday and said that it is continuously coordinating with the relevant agencies about the situation of Nepalis in the area after the flood and landslide.
