Landslide in Uttarakhand, 5 Nepalis suspected to be buried

Prakash Malla, Consul of the Nepali Embassy in Delhi, has said that they have received the information that 5 Nepalis from Bardia have gone missing due to landslides. They have not been in contact with their families since Wednesday, who came to work in road construction.

Three Nepalis from the same family from Madhuvan Municipality-6 and one from the same municipality-8, who entered India for work, have lost contact with India.

The family members said that they have gone to road construction work and have been out of touch since Wednesday . Consul Prakash Malla of the Nepali Embassy in Delhi has also said that they have received information about the disappearance of 5 Nepalis from Bardia.

It is suspected that they may have been buried in a landslide near Madhera Khatoula, which is about 1 km from village Bakuda in the state of Uttarakhand.

Uddhav Khadka, a resident of Madhuvan Napa-6, said that 39-year-old nephew Narendra Khadka, his 30-year-old wife Saraswati and 2-year-old son Roman are missing. He  Nephew Narendra went to Jampuri in Garhwal with his family and said that he was working as a daily wage earner. Since then they have not been able to be contacted.' A member of Narendra's family said that Babu Chunamani went to Garhwal with his relative Nanda Bahadur Thapa on Thursday morning after getting information about his son's disappearance.

45-year-old Ramu Periyar's wife Amrita of village number 8 of Madhuvan-5 has also been out of touch since Tuesday . Amrita's daughter-in-law Vimala Raji said that she could not get in touch with her mother-in-law. Chitra Bahadur Paudel, who helps locals find jobs in India, was also in Paudi Garhwal at the time of the incident. Paudel said that he saved himself to defecate during the incident.

He said in the event  Lakshmi Pariyar of Madhuvan-8 and Bhupendra Khatri of the same municipality-7 were injured and they are being treated at Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani. He said that he repeatedly took 73 people from Bardia as workers there in three groups and all but 5 people are in contact.

The Nepali Embassy in Delhi has also received the information from the Indian official that three Nepalis aged 21, 19 and 23, whose names and addresses have not been disclosed, were injured. Consul Mall said that he had received information that the injured were being treated at a local hospital.
