67-year-old Palden and his wife Mangali Tamang of No. 12 Dhara located in Vidur-9 reached the Trishuli River, which is 5 minutes away from their house, at around 5:30 am on Tuesday morning to collect firewood. Shortly after reaching the river, there was a big flood. The Tamang couple got trapped in that flood.

As the flood rose, they climbed a sisou tree on the edge. The family members who lived there were unharmed. They were crying. Calls for rescue helicopters started. Finally, around 8:30, the Nepali army helicopter arrived. Then they were rescued.

Tuesday was Mangali's birthday. She was going from 61 to 62. The family was preparing to celebrate the birthday. When Kantipurkarmi reached the couple's house at 9 in the evening, the puja was going on. Family members were all over the house. Guru Cheez was reading a long lesson. It was said by the family members that a puja was performed to blow away the whites of the Tamang couple.

According to Palden, his wife went to the Trishuli river early to get firewood and he followed her. There was no flood at that time. While collecting firewood in the middle of the river and putting it in the doka, the ledo was washed away. At that moment someone whistled. My ears don't hear much. The mother (wife) was blowing the whistle, saying let's do it quickly. "Suddenly, a stream with big stones started coming," he said, "the river became uncrossable." There was a sisau tree next to it. I chose the strong one to climb, but my mother fell down. The river was rising. Mother was carrying a rope and three or four ropes. I thought I would tie her with a rope and climb a tree.'

Then he tied a rope to a branch of a tree and fell down. He tied a rope around his wife's waist and climbed up and pulled her. "When my mother could not leave the floor, I got down and tied a rope around her legs. Then I climbed up and pulled. I tied him to the tree with a rope,' he said, 'I was shaking. Keep going down. Look at the bottom of the tree. Mother was crying. I kept reminding her not to cry. It was not raining.'

According to Palden, the stones brought by the flood were stuck at the bottom of Sisou. Some stones stuck at the base of the tree were swept away by the flood in a short time. By chance, a large puddle brought by the flood landed at the base of the tree and fell. According to Palden, the tree was saved from falling due to this.

Two small trees on the side had been swept away by the flood. That's why I got scared. People are gathering around. I didn't see anything. I was just thinking how to escape. At that moment, it sounded like a helicopter. When I looked at the clock, it was 8:30," he said, "the first batch of helicopters came and sat across. I thought I was alive now. Saw the big helicopter again. A helicopter came over the tree. Suddenly a military brother jumped from a helicopter into the water under a tree. And tied us both with a belt on the swing. The soldier brother who had come down also sat there. While flying, we drowned in the bed of the river but nothing happened.

The helicopter rescued them and took them a little higher and came down. Then they took us to the army. From there, we reached the hospital and came home," said Palden, "I didn't think I would survive like this. We both got a new life.'
