The police have questioned Dhanraj Gurung, the vice-chairman of the ruling Congress and former minister, who was accused of co-operative fraud. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police made a statement to Gurung, who is also a member of the House of Representatives, for the second time on Tuesday.
CIB According to Chief AIG Deepak Thapa, Gurung was summoned to the CIB's Lazimpat office in Lalitpur's Miteri Cooperative fraud case and a statement was recorded.
Gurung has denied his involvement in the co-operative fraud saying that the co-operative took away the house and ruined the family before the CIB. AIG Thapa said that the investigation into the fraud is ongoing and evidence is still being collected.
'During the investigation, Gurung has been sent for questioning statement . We have called to understand some things based on the facts and evidence we have collected. As the investigation is still going on, other things will be revealed,' said Thapa, 'some people are absconding in the fraud case . A red notice has already been issued through Interpol to search for them.'
Gurung has been accused of defrauding crores of rupees along with his wife in Miteri Sahakari of Lalitpur . In that cooperative, Gurung made Mrs. Jyoti Gurung an assistant level employee on May 12, 2057. After 2 months, she became the accountant of Jyoti Sahakari on July 25, senior accountant on May 4, 2070 and general manager on May 4, 2075.
After becoming the general manager, it has also been revealed that he has put Jyoti Bahadur Bhandari's money as a meter badge. After she became the general manager, Bhandari repeatedly put the money of the cooperative in the meter badge. Initially, Jyoti Gurung withdrew Rs 30 lakh from the cooperative and gave it to Jyoti Bhandari for a week, but Bhandari returned it by adding Rs 5 lakh.
It has also been revealed that after giving 4 million in the second phase, Bhandari returned the amount by adding 10 million the next week. Once 50 lakhs was given and 60 lakhs was returned. In this way, when the co-operative's money was put into the meter bank every week, attractive money started coming in, and this process increased, and she invested Bhandari with about 3.5 million rupees in the meter bank.
But, without returning the said amount, Bhandari became uncontactable. According to a member of the cooperative and the investigating police source, Congress leader Gurung was aware of this business of his wife at that time. According to police sources, it was found that the embezzlement of funds from the cooperative continued till 2079.
Gurung got divorced from his wife in court in 2076 after the matter of the cooperative case went out to the board of directors and shareholders. Even after that, he had taken a loan from the cooperative keeping his wife as a right holder, and in the 2079 election, his wife's name was written by Jyoti Gurung.
