Recently, there has been a wave of migration among Nepali youth abroad. After completing class 12, the youth will become a 'ghost rider' to go abroad. Most of them dream of America, Europe, Canada and Japan.

The number of people who are thinking of doing something while staying in the country is very small. One of the three is 25-year-old Rashmi Kandel. Due to her determination to do something in the country, she did not think about going abroad. Lately, Rashmi has been working round the clock to bring Nepali products to the world market.

Rashmi from Talphant, Besi Sahar Municipality-2 in Lamjung, wanted to do creative work and contribute to the community from an early age. For that, as per her parents' advice, she chose medical field to study after SLC. During her studies, she was also very active in conducting health camps and community based awareness programs. But over time, he started to become independent.

At that time, it was a trend to go abroad especially with a medical degree. But she aimed to do something new at the community level in Nepal. "When I was involved in a social organization as a volunteer, I met some foreign volunteers who were interested in the famous wild honey found in Lamjung," she said.

At that time, foreign friends also requested Rashmi to bring wild honey. Then, with the help of her father, she also provided honey to her friends. "The friends really liked the taste of honey," she says. At that time there was not much market for wild honey. Not knowing about its benefits, a comment was made that it was too expensive in Thamel. Because of this, only a few local sellers used to sell and distribute it. "At that time, Nepali people did not have the habit of eating honey regularly," she says, "they were not very knowledgeable about wild honey that is used only for medicinal purposes."

Then she decided to do something for the honey hunting community. The journey of Rashmi, who has been associated with the honey business since 2015, continues. In this process, he not only familiarized himself with information technology, but also ventured into business strategy and building a global brand. For seven years, she has 'delivered' thousands of jars of wild honey to customers around the world. Apart from that, she is equally active in informing the world about Nepal's rare honey and exotic herbs.

She then registered 'Everest Organic Home' in 2018 to promote products like 'Wild Cliff Honey'. In two years, Kandel spread its product 'Himalayan Cliff Honey' in the local market of Kathmandu. Sometime after that, she moved forward with the goal of bringing 'Himalayan Cliff Honey' to the world market.

'We decided to take up another challenge and started exploring, researching and setting up to take Himalayan Cliff Honey to the global market,' she said. He had three productions from 2019 to 2020. Global market access and ample supply growing every month. Later she started exporting all the three products in bulk through major 'e-commerce market places' like Amazon, eBay, Etsy etc. Despite the covid pandemic, the supply has surprisingly increased compared to previous years. After that, she registered the company 'Himalayan Treasure Ltd.' in London, UK to advance Nepal's export industry.  Now she is working to build a common 'platform' for people who produce excellent goods to export globally and to raise the economic level of local communities. According to Rashmi, now more than 300 farmers are benefited because of her and Nepali production is reaching 134 countries. About 11,000 foreign customers have already become. We are selling wild honey ( Medicinal Mad Honey

) spices, Silajit, tea, coffee, black cardamom and other spices.'  According to Rashmi, she is working with about 300 locals and more than 2000 farmers and honey hunters. Kandel said that although it is not important in Nepal, its demand is increasing in the world market and her company buys 4 to 5 thousand kg of honey annually. His main business markets are America, Europe, Japan, UK and Middle East. “We supply both wholesale and retail,” she says, “Wild honey is used for various medicinal and cosmetic research. We have also sold honey and bee pollen to famous brands in France and South Korea and they are using it in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.'  According to Rashmi, due to the lack of global standards in Nepali products, there are challenges of proper testing facilities and certification. There are also problems with shipping, packaging and distribution and payment gateways as Nepali banks still do not accept international payments. He believes that there is no proper standard from the government for testing and analyzing wild honey from the food department, lack of coordination with the local community to protect and promote the tradition and culture of honey hunting, hydropower projects and construction works near the bee habitat as well as climate change.

She says that the lack of research and identification of wild bees and species in the Himalayan regions has also emerged as a problem. According to Rashmi, 'Mad Honey' controls blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and cures cough and sore throat. Similarly, its properties are to reduce stress, induce sleep, strengthen the digestive system, and reduce joint pain.
