The room is full of old car parts. There is everything from motorcycle oil tanks to helmets. Body that doesn't work for auto. Number plates from different countries adorn the walls. Old bicycle rings. And an 'antique' sofa set made by cutting a drum. It is written on the sofa, the brand of the vehicle is Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda etc. Don't worry, this is not a car maker, but a 'garage' that makes coffee.

Adjacent to Thana Road in Damak, the bustling city of Jhapa, is the 'Garage' Cafe. The decoration of Kawadi items adds to the charm of the cafe. The owner of the cafe is 35-year-old Luka Rai from Shivasatakshi-9 Dudhe, Jhapa. He himself is the planner and designer of the cafe. "I did the interior design of the cafe myself," said Luca.

Luka has decorated the cafe with the kavadi items that people have found to be useless, which has changed the look of the cafe. He ran from Birtamod to Biratnagar and collected some goods. There are about two dozen cafes in Damak. His cafe stands out in that crowd. "I have created an environment where people who have entered once will come back," said Luca, "the atmosphere in the cafe is what customers want."

Coffee making garage Luca's cafe story is interesting. Born in a middle class family. He went abroad after completing 10th standard. Why did he not want to study above 10th standard. He went abroad out of desire rather than compulsion. Desire to travel the country and earn tons of money.

He was only 18 years old when he flew to Qatar for the first time in 2006. He left the country as a helper. Worked in house interior design for 6 years. After spending a long time in the same company, he changed not only the company and the job, but also the country. In the year 2012, working in an intellectual company in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He became a senior housekeeping supervisor in the Sheikh family company. He used to give hospitality training to women from Nepal and other countries.

14 years have passed in the bay. Earned as much money as expected during this period. In Abu Dhabi, his monthly salary was five lakh rupees. Spent almost eight years in Abu Dhabi. It is not difficult to estimate how much he would have earned in eight years at the rate of five lakhs per month.

He left the bay after the covid epidemic. He returned home after the first lockdown of 2020. Voluntary return was banned by the government. 48 thousand Nepalis filled the form to return home from UAE. Of which only 8,000 were allowed to return. He also fell into it. "Even to return home, we had to use the resources of the leaders," he said with a laugh. He had already planned to return to Nepal and start some new work. However, after the lockdown, he was worried that the plan would fail. However, it must be said that it was a coincidence, not a plan. Instead, it proceeded in a stronger manner.

The government had a plan to provide 10 lakhs without collateral as a subsidized loan to the 'returnees' who returned from abroad due to the covid epidemic. He also intended to take a loan and start a venture. Completed the difficult paperwork to get the loan.

Coffee making garage When he went to take a loan after completing all the work, the manager of the commercial bank asked him, "Do you need to take a loan?" He was surprised to hear this. It is not that there is no mortgage with him. However, he did not like the fact that he asked for collateral while giving loans.  He had already invested more than 5 million in the hope of getting a

loan. However, they did not get the loan. "The unsecured loan campaign gave me the courage to work," he added, "I started the enterprise with the hope of getting a loan."

Cafe Garage built in Damak with huge investment. The second, third lockdown and different variants of covid put a strain on cafe opening. A garage has been built. Is the investment going to sink? For a long time, the fear of saying On top of that, the business he started was in Damak's 'offsite'. However, suddenly the epidemic of covid was slowing down. Withered businesses began to tighten. And Luca also had hope. "It was started only a year after the garage was built," he added, "business has achieved unimaginable success."

Coffee making garage Luca saw 'antique' type cafes while living abroad. He incorporated it into his venture. He also studied the wishes and desires of the young generation. He says that he started the cafe according to the wishes of the youth. "I believed that I could satisfy the youth with my work," he added, "otherwise the cafe would not last for three years."

Luca has now invested more than 2 million in the cafe. Along with coffee, the cafe also has a barista school. 16 youths have also got employment. He believes that vision and confidence are more important than money. "Money is never an obstacle for a working person," Luca shared his experience, "The main thing is the idea, once the idea is there, investment is not a big deal."
