Dr. Shambhu Yadav, the candidate of the National Independent Party from Siraha-3, has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives. He won by securing 32,249 votes, breaking the stronghold of the Communists and the Congress.

Yadav's closest rival, Lilanath Shrestha of the CPN-UML, secured 10,156 votes. Similarly, Bishwanath Sah of the Nepali Communist Party secured 9,942 votes, while Subhash Chandra Yadav of the Nepali Congress secured 9,879 votes.

Shambhu, 41, a resident of Paterwa, Siraha Municipality-17, was born on 15th of Push 2041. He is a doctor. He studied MBBS from Zhongzhou University in China. After completing his studies, he returned to Nepal in 2067 and worked in various hospitals in Kathmandu for a few years.

However, after the earthquake, he left his own house and did not return to Kathmandu after that. He stayed in the district and worked in various hospitals. After visiting various villages in the district during the earthquake, he says that he did not feel like going to Kathmandu because he saw the lack of health awareness among the citizens and the pathetic health services here.

He worked in private hospitals here to earn a living while staying in the district and running health camps in various places in the district. He remained active in increasing health awareness along with providing healthcare to the citizens. He worked to make farmers aware of the effects of pesticides used in vegetables on human health.

However, concluding that such informal campaigns or efforts alone would not increase health awareness and improve the health sector, he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 2079 BS and entered politics. He has had the privilege of working as an MP within three years of entering formal politics.

After being elected as an MP, he said that his main objective would be to change the health sector along with the development work in this area. ‘After becoming an MP, I will have to pay attention to everything in this area. I will have to fulfill all the promises I made during the elections,’ Shambhu told Kantipur. ‘But, improving the health sector is my main dream.’
