Book 2024 : Variety in Genres, Average Market

The Nepali book market of 2024 was average. While non-fiction dominated in 2023, this year the publisher also launched fiction and essay books. However, they themselves say, 'The number of readers who read books is constantly decreasing, this is a matter of concern.'

This year, writer Sudhir Sharma got more buzz from non-fiction. His twin books 'Himalapariko Huri' and 'Bhikshu Trade and Rebellion' are also in the eyes of the readers in terms of subject and importance. In the book, the relationship between Nepal and China has been studied in a historical manner. Similarly, the 45-day journey of environmental journalist Ramesh Bhusal from Tibet to India's Ganga, 'Chalbato: Kailash to Ganga', is being discussed in the book market. From climate to forests, from dams to tigers, from the Dalai Lama to oppressed communities, the book is a reader's choice.

Hemant Mishra's 'Shri 5 Ko Sevama' was also released this year . The book covers the meeting of King Mahendra with Arna, the rhinoceros offering from King Birendra, the Khamba Rebellion and hippies in Kathmandu. Recently Durga Bahadur Gharti's 'Cultural Study' has come out. The book has raised the debate from the global tradition of cultural studies to the cultural awareness awakened in Nepali literature.
