Searching for answers to these questions, the 29th National Children's Literature Conference, which has been going on for two days, ended on Saturday. How useful is children's literature? What is the condition of the library and reading culture in the school? A five-point manifesto has also been adopted, debating what efforts have been made to involve children in creative work.
The resolution that the local government should play a role in promoting literature, schools should develop a reading culture by promoting the library, and stakeholders should be responsible for the development of local language and literature has been passed by the conference. In addition, schools and parents should create an environment for the development of children's abilities, and the local level should be declared child-friendly and effective programs for children should be decided in the manifesto.
In the conference held at Gorkha International Public Secondary School in Ghorahi, more than 50 writers of national level participated and discussed various issues related to children, the organizer Nepal Bal Sahitya Samaj has informed. In the conference, Krishnaraj Sarvahari presented a paper on 'Situation of Children's Literature in Tharu Language' and Surya BC presented a paper on 'Outline of Dang's Children's Literature'. Tikaram Udasi, the local program coordinator and president of Rapti Sahitya Parishad, said that in the
program, the experts discussed children's literature and reading culture, the role of local government in promoting children's literature, the impact of social media on children, the physical quality of books and the role of libraries in schools.
In addition to this, he informed that there was an interaction with the school leadership about the school management. Likewise, besides discussing the proper care of children with the teachers and parents, the children were given training in literature writing, acting, painting, dancing, storytelling, etc. Likewise, book exhibition, prize distribution, honors and art presentation were held by Pramod Pradhan, Central President of Children's Literature Society. Linguist Professor Chudamani Bandhu was honored at the
event. Surya BC, member secretary of the local organizing committee, said that 450 children participated in the conference and developed their skills in literary writing. Story, poetry and handwriting competitions were also held in the program.
