Inisha Bik, 16, who lives in Birendranagar-1, left home at 6 am last Saturday, saying she was going to study tuition. She was studying in class 11 in the science faculty at Usha Kindergarten School. Since it was Saturday, her mother Tila and she had planned to go to her village Gurbhakot the previous day.

But when Inisha said she would return in 1-2 hours and then go to the village, her mother Tila sent her to come quickly. But her daughter did not return.  ‘When her daughter, who had said she would return by 8 pm, did not return by 9 am, I called her, but her mobile was off,’ said mother Tila, crying. ‘Then I called the teacher’s mobile too, but it was off.’

About 10 minutes later, mother Tila received a call from an unknown number, saying that Inisha was unconscious in the forest of Shahid Park.  When she hurriedly reached Shahid Park, Inisha’s body was naked, bloody and unconscious. By the time she arrived, the police had also reached the spot. ‘The body was completely covered in blood, her hair was disheveled, and grass was strewn around,’ she said. ‘Since she was naked, her body was covered with a black jacket. I fainted there without being able to see that.’ 

Police and locals rushed Inisha to the provincial hospital, about 10 minutes away. But before treatment could begin, the doctor declared her dead. Her body has been kept at the provincial hospital. A post-mortem has been done. The family has taken a stand that the body will not be identified until action is taken against the culprits. ‘She was murdered after gang rape, we will not identify the body until justice is served,’ said mother Tila. 

A team of specialist doctors has been called from Bheri Hospital Nepalgunj for a detailed post-mortem report, said Dr. Ganesh Thapa, director of the provincial hospital. ‘The post-mortem from all angles  The report is being analyzed,' he said, 'We will send a detailed report to the concerned agency in 1-2 days. The police have also said that they have sent the sample to the forensic laboratory for a 'forensic report'. 

The truth of the incident will be known after both reports come, said DSP Mohan Jung Budthapa, spokesperson of the District Police Office. According to him, the initial investigation of the police shows that Inisha died after being raped.  The post-mortem report shows that the internal and external parts of the genitals were torn, resulting in excessive bleeding, said Dr. Arbin Shakya, Senior Forensic Department Officer at Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj.

'It seems that the contact was made in an extremely violent manner, the fact that it was gang rape or not has not been revealed,' he said, 'Other reports are also yet to come.'  According to DSP Budthapa, the police were informed at around 9:15 am that day.

All three arrested are minors (under 18 years of age).

The deceased girl’s father, Indra Bahadur BK, has been working in the Dubai Police for 6 years after retiring from the Nepali Army. They also have a house in Birendranagar-1. Mother Tila had been living in Birendranagar for five years to educate Inisha and her brother. Although father Indra Bahadur tried to come to Nepal after the incident, he could not return because the Dubai airport was closed, said neighbor Prem Bahadur BK.

DSP Budthapa said that the family has filed a complaint against four people for manslaughter and rape. According to the police, the arrested 16-year-old boy, during his statement, stated that he had suffered excessive bleeding during physical contact with the girl.

‘She fainted after bleeding, then I called three other friends to rescue her,’ he said in his statement, ‘I had a love affair with her for two years, we used to meet occasionally.’ Police say that the ‘call details’ show that the teenager called the other three young men at 8:25 am.  The incident site, Shaheed Park, has been built inside the Bhairav ​​Community Forest. The victims demonstrated in Birendranagar on Wednesday. A team including Ama Tila submitted a memorandum to the District Administration Office and District Police Office demanding that the truth of the incident be made public and those involved in the crime be severely punished.

‘The maximum action should be taken against the culprits, the police should not try to acquit them, we will not accept the body until there is a guarantee of action against the culprits,’ said Ananta BK, the uncle of the deceased. On Wednesday, Karnali Province Chief Minister Yamalal Kandel also visited the victim’s family. He said that the process of bringing out the truth of the incident and taking action according to the law will proceed independently and impartially. He said that the provincial government is clear that the victim’s family will get justice.

Rights organizations in the district have submitted a letter of appeal to the district administration, district police office and other bodies protesting the incident. "A very sad, inhuman and condemnable incident has taken place. It is necessary to conduct a fair investigation and bring the culprits to justice," said Narayan Subedi, Karnali Province Coordinator of human rights organization INSEC. "The administration should provide justice to the victim's family immediately. It is necessary to further strengthen effective security arrangements, surveillance and awareness-raising programs to prevent sexual violence and crimes against women and girls."

Various organizations also demonstrated at Maitighar in the capital Kathmandu on Wednesday, demanding action against the culprits.
