Due to various reasons, by-elections are being held on the 16th of November for vacant posts at the local level. According to the Election Commission, by-elections will be held for 8 posts in Karnali. Bye-elections will be held at the local level of Karnali for 8 posts of 1 rural municipality chairman, 1 municipal deputy chief, 1 rural village vice chairman and 5 ward presidents.
Bye-elections are about to be held in Mahavu after the death of Lachuman Gurung, Chairman of Mahavu Rural Municipality of Dailekh due to heart attack. Gurung was an elected representative from the Congress. The by-election for the post of ward president is also going to be held in Ward No. 13 of Dullu Municipality. After the death of Virkh Bahadur Shahi, who was elected as the ward president from UML, the post of ward president is vacant.
By-elections are being held for the post of Deputy Chief in Nalgad Municipality of Jajarkot. Bye-elections are about to be held in Nalgad after the death of Sarita Singh, who was elected as the deputy chief of the Nepali Congress in the earthquake. After the death of Ward President Man Bahadur Gharti of Kuse rural municipality-7, the election for the post is about to be held.
In Sarkegad Rural Municipality of Humla, by-elections are also being held for the post of Vice President. After the death of Chandra Singh Karki who won from CPN Maoist Center in a car accident, the municipality is without a vice president.
There is going to be a by-election for the post of Ward President in Ward No. 4 of Tilagufa Municipality of Kalikot. The post is vacant after the death of Ward President Par Bahadur Shahi, who was elected from the Maoist Center.
Tripurasundari municipality-5 of Dolpa is holding a by-election for the post of ward president. The post is vacant after the death of Nandalal Roka, who was elected from UML.
Similarly, by-elections are being held for the post of Ward President of Saniveri Rural Municipality-5 in Rukum Paschim. Ward president Al Bahadur Khatri, who was elected from Congress in 2079, died due to jaundice.
Parties deciding on candidates
As the by-election date approaches, the parties are deciding on candidates . Congress has decided to nominate Jhalak Bahadur Bhandari as the chairman of Mahavu rural municipality of Dailekh. Similarly, the Congress has said that it will make Resham Bahadur Shahi a candidate for the post of Ward President of Dullu Municipality-13.
Similarly, the Congress has finalized the names of Indrachand Singh for the deputy chief of Jajarkot's Nalgad municipality and Khamba Bahadur Singh's name as the candidate for the ward president of Kushe Rural Municipality-7.
Similarly, District Deputy Chairman Vasant Rokaya said that Savita Budha of Sarkegad-8 Rahdev of Humla has decided to make her a candidate on behalf of the Congress.
CPN United Samajwadi has finalized the name of Jang Bahadur Shahi for the chairman of Mahabu Rural Municipality. The Maoist center is also working for the selection of the candidates, said Krishna Jisi, the provincial vice president. According to him, a single recommendation of the candidate has come from most of the places. He said that recommendations will come from the rest of the places alone. He said that the candidate will be decided soon.
He said that the province will approve the candidates of the municipality and the municipality will recommend them for the wards. Provincial Vice President Tekraj Pachai said that CPN-UML has almost finished its list of candidates.
