This time, the National Independent Party has won in Syangja Constituency No. 1. Syangja, known as the stronghold of the Congress-UML, was also defeated by the then Maoists in the 2064 House of Representatives election. Faith in the old party had not been able to shake Syangja. However, this time, Dr. Dhananjay Regmi from the Rashtriya Swatantra Party has created history for the first time by breaking the dominance of the old parties. 

Regmi was elected by beating his opponent by 10,214 votes. Regmi of the Rashtriya Swatantra Party got 29,071 votes. His opponent, Bharatraj Dhakal of the Nepali Congress, became the runner-up by getting 18,857 votes. Similarly, while CPN-UML candidate Min Prasad Gurung got 16,804 votes, Nepali Communist Party candidate Shailendra Ghimire got only 1,552 votes.

There were 130,886 voters in Syangja-1. Of these, 70,949 votes were cast. Of the votes cast, 68,036 were valid and 2,913 were invalid. Twelve candidates, including 11 parties and one independent, were in the fray.

Regmi was previously active in the tourism sector. Regmi, who has been in active politics with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for the past six months, was campaigning in villages of Syangja, listening to problems. Known as an expert in the tourism sector, Regmi was considered a strong contender in this field. 

Regmi is the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Tourism Board. While on the board, he took initiatives to promote Nepal in the international market, identify new tourist destinations, and strengthen private-public collaboration. He also played an active role in the post-COVID-19 tourism revival strategy.

Having worked on tourism promotion, policy reforms, and post-COVID revival strategy, he will now take the agenda of Syangja's development to the parliament. 

Regmi, who obtained a PhD from Japan, has accumulated extensive study and experience in tourism policy, sustainable development, and destination management. He has been giving presentations on Nepal's tourism potential at international forums and now aims to transform that experience into political leadership. In the election arena, Regmi has put forward an agenda to develop Syangja-1 as a prosperous region with agriculture, tourism, and foreign employment options. "I have prioritized rural tourism, homestay promotion, youth entrepreneurship, and infrastructure expansion," he said. Presenting a long-term development blueprint, he said that he aims to operate a stone industry along with upgrading the Siddhartha Highway, operating a fertilizer factory, and operating a stone industry.
