The play 'Mukkumlung: Chotlung of Yakthung' will be staged at Mandala Theater in Kathmandu from January 4 to 27. The play is based on Mujingna Kheyangna, the first woman on earth mentioned in Mundhum.
The play is directed by Anil Subba. The official announcement of the drama staging was made by Mandala Theater Nepal, Chulachuli Theater and Ek Theater Nepal together.
According to the production side, the recent developments up to the Mukkumlung protection movement have been included in the play. Lately, there is a 'Mukkumlung Protection' i.e. 'No Cable Car' movement going on in Mukkumlung of Taplejung. Stakeholders say that Mukkumlung is a sacred place of Yakthung (Limbu) and the installation of the cable car will displace the relationship between Mukkumlung and Limbu.
President of One Theater Nepal, Vishnu Moktan, said that the drama has been prepared to explain the importance of Mukkumlung. "Especially Mukkumlung is the head of common Limbuwan land and Limbuwanis," said Chetan Angthupo, president of Chulachuli Theater, "this role is a movement in favor of identity through art and creation against the kind of oppression and destruction that is being done under the protection of the state against the beliefs of Raithane community and nature-worshipping natives." Anil Subba, Gilu Ratos and Vishnu Moktan have jointly written the play and will feature Vishnu Moktan, Vedan Rai, Suraj Tamu, Pratina Rai, Manhang Lavati, Shobha Limbu and others.
