It is estimated that the damage to the road infrastructure due to the landslide is more than 7 billion. Out of that, it is said that 91 crores was damaged due to landslides in the bridge alone. The road department said that this is an estimated cost and the damage details are still coming.

Based on the damage so far, the estimated cost of 10.68 billion rupees has been calculated to restore the roads and bridges to their original condition, said Prabhat Kumar Jha, spokesperson of the road department. "This is an estimated cost statement," he said, "this cost may be lower or higher."

In order to rebuild roads and bridges damaged by floods, it should be designed and proceeded through the contract process. Department sources said that it will take time. Most of the damage is currently on the Mechi Highway and Mechi Corridor roads.

Traffic in this section has been affected. Vehicular traffic is also at a standstill on the BP highway. Last year, about 12 kilometers of roads on this highway were flooded. Even though the contract process for the permanent construction of the road was completed, the vehicle was operated for a year with temporary maintenance.

The contracting agency was preparing to start the permanent construction work after the rainy season. At this time, the temporary structure was again washed away by the flood and the traffic came to a standstill. Now the vehicles passing through this section have been diverted from Khurko in Sindhuli to Ramechhapathi. Vehicles coming from the east are entering the capital via Ramechhap's Manthali, Dolakha's Charikot, Mude, Sindhupalchok's Khadichour, Dolalghat-Kavre.

Now the traffic is increasing in this section and passengers are forced to reach their destination after hours of traffic jam. Driving large passenger and cargo vehicles on narrow roads leads to more traffic jams. Vijay Jaisi, Director General of the Roads Department claims that a temporary diversion will be made on the flood-damaged BP highway by Friday morning.

'We have opened the road from Nepalthok towards Sindhuli and brought it to Kavre,' Jaisi said, 'The work is going on in a hurry, there is a problem at Charsaybesi and Chowkidanda, that's why we are preparing to use more machines and manpower in this section until Friday morning.'

"There is a problem in the Mykhola-Bhanjang section of the Mechi road," Jaisi said, "The road improvement work is going on, it will take some time for vehicles to be operational." Elsewhere, the main road has not been blocked yet and the traffic has been diverted as soon as the landslide occurred, he said. "There is no budget to start the reconstruction of the bridge and road damaged by the flood," he said, "but we will not allow it to be delayed, we will manage the budget soon and proceed with the work." Ghurmi-Khurkot, Jayaramghat-Halesi road sections under Madhyapahari highway have been damaged due to landslides. Landslides have occurred in places in this section. The road has been put into operation after removing the landslide.

Beni-Jomsom-Korla road at the head of the road has been damaged by floods of Rs 68 crore. According to the road department, further damage has occurred due to landslides at various places in this section. Landslides have also damaged the Bhotkhola and Samatar-Makalu sections under the Khandbari-Kimathanka road of the Koshi corridor of the North-South connecting highway.

It is estimated that one and a half billion rupees will be needed for the reconstruction of the Mechi highway. Various sections of the highway including Koshi, Madhyapahari, Hulaki, Araniko, Kanti, Narayangadh-Muglin, which have been damaged, have to be reconstructed due to flood damage. It is estimated that one billion and 59 million rupees will be needed for the reconstruction of alternative roads.

According to Kulman Ghisingh, Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development, the subordinate agencies are working on the operation of the roads that were damaged by the flood and blocked as a high priority. Minister Ghising also said that equipment and manpower have been mobilized to operate the blocked road as quickly as possible and the work is being regularly monitored.
