The government has appointed outgoing Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari to the Governor Selection and Recommendation Committee of Nepal Rastra Bank. Minister of Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhtar said that the officer was appointed as a member of the recommendation committee at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday. With this, the committee is complete and the work of selecting the governor will proceed, he said.

On March 24, the officer retired after completing five years of service. The government formed the Governor's Recommendation Committee on Chait 11 (the term of the Governor was ending).

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Vishnu Paudel's recommendation committee included former governor Vijayanath Bhattarai and expert member Vishwa Paudel. But last week, the post was vacant after Bhattarai resigned saying that the Governor Selection Recommendation Committee had no role.

Despite the discussions in the economic-political market regarding the selection of the governor, the meeting of the recommendation committee has not been held for almost a month. The meeting of the recommendation committee could not be held as the tug-of-war between the ruling party Congress and UML over who will be the governor has not been resolved. The members of the committee had been expressing their displeasure before because the meeting could not be held.

Finance Minister Poudel has assigned Deputy Governor Neelam Dhungana Timsina as acting governor after the appointment of the new governor will be delayed. Meanwhile, people over 65 years of age will not be appointed as the governor of the National Bank.

Supreme Court Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Balkrishna Dhakal stopped the implementation of the 'Standards 2073 regarding the appointment and nomination of officials and members of public bodies affiliated to the Ministry of Finance', and people over 65 years of age will not be appointed as governors.

The short-term interim order issued by the bench of Judge Nityanand Pandey on the writ filed by advocate Vishal Thapa and others was ordered to continue on Wednesday.
