Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has led a demonstration in Havana in open opposition to the US military action against Venezuela.
Canel, who is also the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), was at the forefront of the protest rally organized on Saturday morning at the ‘Anti-Imperialist Platform’. The rally, held at the ‘Anti-Imperialist Tribune’ venue in Havana, was attended by the Cuban high leadership as well as Venezuelan diplomatic representatives.
The rally was attended by members of the PCC’s political bureau, the president of the National Assembly of the People’s Republic of China, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa, the party’s organizational secretary Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
Government officials, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Venezuelan diplomatic corps, representatives of mass organizations, and ordinary citizens also participated in the demonstration to express solidarity with Venezuela.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said the US's "interventionist policy" in Latin America and the Caribbean was unacceptable. Havana residents expressed their support for Venezuela's sovereignty and people's right to self-determination and spoke out against the US move.
Following the US action, a government statement said that the Venezuelan military and civilians were mobilized to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
