Indian army team has rescued 20 people safely and more teams are engaged in relief work.
9 soldiers of the Indian Army have gone missing in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi on Tuesday due to a severe cloudburst.
Spokesperson of the Indian Army, Lt. Col. Manish Srivastava, while talking to the BBC, said that 9 soldiers of the Indian Army have gone missing in a devastating landslide in the Kheer Ganga river in Dharali.
He says that the Indian Army is active in rescue operations. He said, "Even in such a dire situation, the commanding officer of 14 Rajputana Rifles, Colonel Harsh Vardhan, along with 150 soldiers, is active in relief and rescue operations." 9 members of his team are missing. 11 youths have gone missing and two have been rescued.
Srivastava said, "This team of the Indian Army is gathering to save the citizens". This team has so far rescued 20 people safely. An additional team has been sent to speed up the relief work.
On Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Indian time, four people have been confirmed dead and more than four dozen civilians are missing due to the sudden floods and landslides. Dozens of houses and hotels have been destroyed by the disaster that occurred in just 34 seconds.
