France captain Kylian Mbappe has admitted that his team made tactical and technical mistakes in their failure to reach the 2026 World Cup final, saying they will always complain. France crashed out of the tournament on Wednesday after losing 2-0 to Spain in the semi-finals.
Mbappe was the most impressive player in the run to the last four, scoring eight goals. But the 27-year-old's dream of playing in a third consecutive final did not come true. In an interview with French broadcaster M-Six, he said he was extremely disappointed.
"We did not play as we wanted to. We made mistakes in the tactical and technical game. Our performance as a team was not high. If we did not play as we wanted in the semi-finals of the World Cup, we would lose."
"Our goal was to play fast and attack and slow down Spain." We were better than Spain in terms of controlling the game. But we couldn't do that," Mbappe added. "Our dream was to reach the final, it didn't come true, we have to accept that."
