Belgium booked their place in the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup with a 3-2 victory over Senegal on Thursday after Youri Telemans converted a penalty late in extra time. Belgium came from two goals down to win the match in dramatic fashion. Mamoudou Lamine fouled Telemans late in extra time, giving them a penalty.

Senegal had already opened the scoring in the 25th minute through Habib Diarra. Ismail Sarr doubled their lead in the 51st minute with a superb strike. Senegal looked to be on the verge of victory with just minutes remaining. But Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring for Belgium in the 86th minute. Youri Telemans equalised in the 89th minute. Belgium won the dramatic penalty shootout late in extra time. Belgium will now face the winner of Thursday's match between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina for a place in the quarterfinals.
