Delhi Capitals' winning streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) was stopped by Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Delhi, which has won four matches in a row, was defeated by 12 runs at its own home ground. Chasing 206 runs for victory, Delhi were bowled out by scoring 193 runs in 19 overs.
Delhi lost the last three wickets in three consecutive balls and all of them were run out. Delhi got off to an aggressive start but could not sustain it and were forced to keep losing wickets towards the end of the innings. Karun Nair scored 89 off 40 balls for Delhi. He was strongly supported by Abhishek Porel who scored 33 runs.
Nair hit 12 fours and five sixes. After they got out, Delhi's batting order collapsed. Karn Sharma was the most successful bowler for Mumbai and took three wickets for 36 runs. After the defeat, Delhi dropped to the second position with eight points. Mumbai managed to collect four points with their second win. The team also climbed to seventh place.
After losing the toss, Mumbai scored 250 runs after losing five wickets. Mumbai's score was anchored by Tilak Verma's half-century innings. He scored 59 runs off just 33 balls. He hit 6 fours and 3 sixes. Similarly, Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir put in significant performances with the bat.
Of that Rickelton scored 41, Yadav scored 40 and Dhir scored 38. Verma shared a 60-run partnership with Yadav. Opener Rohit Sharma failed once again for Mumbai and could only manage 18 runs. Kuldeep Yadav proved to be the most accurate of the Delhi bowlers. He took two wickets for just 23 runs.
Bengaluru's easy victory
Jaipur - Royal Challengers Bengaluru easily defeated Rajasthan Royals by nine wickets in the first match on Sunday after opening pair Virat Kohli and Phil Salt scored half centuries. Kohli and Salt put on an aggressive 92-run partnership for the first wicket. Salt scored a 33-ball 65, his highest individual score of the season. He hit 5 fours and 6 sixes. He was the player of the match. Kohli remained unbeaten on 62 off 45 balls. 4 fours and 2 sixes came out of his bat.
Bengaluru completed the winning target with 15 balls remaining and scored 176 runs. Devdutta Padikal also scored 40 off 28 balls for Bengaluru and remained unbeaten. Before that, Rajasthan scored 173 runs for the loss of 4 wickets and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 75 runs in 47 balls.
He also formed two fruitful partnerships with captain Sanj Samson and Ryan Parag. Jaiswal's bat had 10 fours and 2 sixes. But the score set by Rajasthan could not remain challenging. After this win, Bengaluru has eight points and is in third place. Rajasthan is limited to four points and is in seventh place.
