In the important innings of Scott Edwards, Biratnagar Kings gave a target of 140 runs to Pokhara Avengers in the first match of Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket on Thursday. Biratnagar, who won the toss and chose to bat at the Trivi Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Thursday, lost 7 wickets and scored 139 runs in the scheduled 20 overs.
Netherlands captain Edwards, who is playing his first game in NPL, scored 45 runs in 35 balls. He was placed in the playing 11 of Biratnagar in place of Akib Ilyas and hit 5 fours . Lokesh Bam, the opening batsman from Viranagar, also took the responsibility of wicket keeping. But Bam couldn't do justice to his performance in the extra role . Edwards arrived in Kathmandu just two days ago for the NPL.
Batting at number four, he shared an important partnership of 43 runs in 5 overs with Canadian captain Nicholas Kritan. Kritan scored 19 runs with 1 six off 16 balls. Chris Soule 7, Deepak Bohra out for 4 runs .
opener Martin Guptill could score only 5 runs. Sagar Dhakal bowled him after playing 14 balls. Lokesh, who hit 2 fours and 1 six in the first over, scored 26 runs in 16 balls. He played a total of 16 balls and hit 2 fours and a six. Naren Bhatt was dismissed for 4 runs. Basir Ahmed remained unbeaten in 21 off 20 balls and 4 runs off 1 ball.
Sagar and Ramon Reefer took 2 wickets each from Pokhara. Sagar spent only 15 runs in 4 overs while Reefer spent 33 runs. Captain Kushal Bhurtel and Dinesh Kharel took 1 wicket each.
Another change in Biratnagar's playing 11 is that Anil Kharel has been replaced by Subas Bhandari. Likewise, Pokhara has changed three players from the team that played the previous match. Akash Chand, Dilip Nath and Matt Critchley have been replaced by Tritraj Das, Kiran Thagunna and Zayn Malik.
Both Pokhara and Biratnagar have won only 1 of their first 4 matches and have lost in three matches. The team that wins this match will have a chance to reach the playoffs, while the losing team will almost certainly be out of the competition .
