Lumbini Lions will have an opportunity to open the door to victory when Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket resumes on Tuesday after a one-day break.
Lumbini will face Chitwan Rhinos in the first match. In the second match of the day, Karnali Yaks and Pokhara Avengers will compete.
Lumbini under the leadership of Rohit Poudel, the captain of the Nepali national team, has been defeated in its first four matches. The playoffs are almost out of the equation. Despite the lack of quality bowlers, Lumbini scored 191 runs in the first match and lost to Biratnagar Kings by 2 wickets.
Since then, the team's losing streak has not stopped. The team, which was considered a strong contender before the start of the tournament, lost by 10 wickets to Pokhara Avengers, by 45 runs to Sudurpaschim and by 1 run to Janakpur Bolts. Lumbini's rival Chitwan has won 3 out of 4 matches. Chitwan, which was seen as the weakest team before the tournament, defeated Kathmandu Gurkhaz by 5 wickets, Pokhara by 87 runs and the contender Sudurpaschim by 33 runs. If Lumbini is defeated, Chitwan's chances of reaching the playoffs will be strengthened, but if Lumbini loses, Lumbini will be officially out of the competition.
Karnali will play their first game in the NPL without Indian star batsman Shikhar Dhawan. Karnali lost the first two matches and won the last two matches. Dhawan has returned to India after playing the first four matches as per the contract. Dhawan scored the highest 136 runs from Karnali. No other Karnali batsman has scored 100 runs. Dev Khanal scored 79 runs and is second in the list of highest run scorers from Karnali.
In the first two matches, Pokhara suffered a defeat due to poor batting and scored 176 runs when they won by 10 wickets against Lumbini. Pokhara must win the match against Karnali to reach the playoffs.
