While Gopal Sharma is entering parliament for the first time as a continuation of the Maoist legacy after 2064, Janardan Sharma's 18-year parliamentary journey has now come to an end.

After leaving the path of 10 years of armed rebellion and entering the peace process, the then Maoist Center contested the parliamentary elections for the first time in the 2064 BS Constituent Assembly elections. Janardan Sharma was the direct candidate from the former Rukum constituency. And, the election commander at that time, Gopal Sharma, was the one to win him. In the following elections, Gopal took over the party, while Janardan took over the parliament.
But, times did not remain the same. Gopal and Janardan, who were in the same party-organization at that time, became competitors for each other in this election. Gopal remained in the NCP formed by the Maoists, while Janardan formed the Progressive Democratic Party (Pralopa). Both of them contested the elections from different parties in the same constituency.
The result was in Gopal's favor, while Congress candidate Raju KC came second and Janardan came third. Gopal, who had been trying to win Janardan in the four elections since 2064, has become an MP this time by defeating him.
After the vote counting was completed on Sunday morning, the NCP took out a victory rally at the district headquarters in the afternoon. In a corner meeting organized after the rally, Gopal targeted Janardan and said, 'When you go to the public to seek votes, I will hold my arm and make the voters win, but don't cheat you like the previous person. Don't leave me in the middle, don't betray me. I am standing here now remembering that. I have promised, there will be no kind of deception or betrayal from me.'
Gopal Sharma, who started his political journey from the student organization in 2046 BS when he was 12 years old, has meanwhile been elected as a member of the Karnali Provincial Assembly in 2074 BS while holding various responsibilities in the party and has also become the Finance Minister.
Janardan had said that Gopal took it as an irony that Janardan left the party and is now a competitor.
In this election campaign, leaders and workers of the NCP and Pralopa opposed and criticized each other. It can be assumed from this that a reunion between the two is now almost impossible.
Janardan congratulated Gopal and expressed his gratitude to the voters by releasing a video message on social media last Sunday. And, he said that he will take the initiative to move forward the integrated Rukum development plan even when he is no longer in office. Apart from this, he has not said anything about the upcoming plan.
Even when UML and Ujjaya Nepal Party supported Janardan by making their candidates inactive, the expected results did not come in his favor. While Gopal Sharma is entering parliament for the first time as a continuation of the Maoist legacy after 2064, Janardan Sharma's parliamentary journey of 18 years is currently at an end.
Whether it is Janardan or Gopal, voters say that ultimately the development of Rukum and the proper addressing of the demands and needs of the people here are the primary issues.
