Congress Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma has said that the election results were unfavorable for the Congress, but not unexpected. He said in a video message a while ago that a meeting of the Central Working Committee will be called to review the election results in depth.
Addressing the party workers and well-wishers, Sharma said that the party will move forward with new energy by identifying the past weaknesses and uniting.
‘The election results were unfavorable. But, not unexpected. A meeting of the Central Working Committee will be called soon to review them in depth,’ he said, ‘In the 2079 local level elections, voters from Dharan, Kathmandu and Dhangadhi gave the message of ‘change your party’. However, the party could not address it with the expected speed.
Instead, a new party, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was established by seizing that opportunity to convert the anger of the voters into votes. The seats that the RSS brought in a short time. That was another message.’
After the election, the party had to choose between leading the government or remaining in the opposition for the entire time, but instead came to power and there were shortcomings in the government's operation.
'There was a weakness in the government's work and progress in speed. There were many disappointments and questions in the whole. It led to rebellion,' he said. Sharma admitted that even after the Gen-G rebellion, the party could not change at the expected speed and that even though the special general convention changed the policy and leadership, it could not be conveyed to the citizens.
'The special general convention changed the policy and leadership. However, the election was held fifty days after the special general convention was concluded and the new leadership came. We started the changes through that, we wrote the issues, questions, and complaints of the society in documents, but we could not take them to the citizen ranks properly, we could not even overcome populism,' he said.
Stating that the expectation of change in all areas after the Gen-G rebellion could not be fulfilled by a single party through a decision, Sharma said, ‘The expectation that there should be change in all areas after the Gen-G rebellion could not be achieved through a single decision. Everyone should have done that. However, the Congress did it. However, it could not be taken to the civilian ranks. That did not bring the election results in our favor.’
He said that the election results would be analyzed by deeply identifying the external and internal reasons, examining the weaknesses and moving forward with a new life. ‘The Congress has seen defeat and victory many times. We will shorten this moment of defeat. After reviewing it deeply, we will search for new possibilities with the entire party ranks,’ Sharma said, ‘For that, the current and outgoing leadership should stand together and think.’ He has called on everyone in the party to maintain restraint, unity and energy by absorbing the results of democratic practice.
‘The results that have come now have come from the path of democratic practice. "I urge everyone to internalize this and maintain restraint, unity, and energy. I congratulate all the political parties that won the election, especially the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its candidates, who are emerging as the leading party," Sharma said in the message.
