Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader Barshaman Pun has said that populist politics can be fatal for the country.

At a press conference organized in Liwang, his home district of Rolpa, on Thursday, Pun, who is also a candidate for the House of Representatives of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) from Rolpa, said that politics without clear ideas, visions and destinations cannot give the country the right direction.

He said that those who speak based on what people like when they speak in a particular place cannot lead the country. Pun argued that nothing can be expected from those who oppose federalism in Kathmandu and say that federalism is needed after reaching Janakpur and that they will work in favor of the squatters after driving them out of Kathmandu and reaching Jhapa. He urged the political party that calls itself new to clarify its ideas, politics and line of action.

‘They oppose federalism in Kathmandu and say that federalism is needed after reaching Janakpur. "In Kathmandu, we are chasing squatters, those who trade on carts and those who work in garbage, and after Jhapa falls, we are in favor of squatters," Pun said, "'Populist' politics where everyone says what they want to hear is dangerous. I would like to urge my friends who say we are new to clarify their views, politics and line of action." However, Pun said that he is ready to cooperate with the so-called new parties if they have a clear commitment to accepting the current federal democratic system of governance and the agenda of linking the republic with socialism, taking the non-incorporated to full inclusion, and establishing equality by bridging the gap between the rich and the poor. "We are ready to work with the new. However, we are not ready to work with the new ones who want to take away the current achievements and move forward, but with the new ones who want to protect the current achievements," he said.

Pun claimed that the Nepali Communist Party is a new party in terms of views, politics and agenda. He said that they are not right-wing populists in the name of status quo and newness. ‘We are new in ideas, new in politics, new in agenda,’ he said, ‘We are not right-wing populists in the name of status quo and newness. This is the issue that the people need to understand.’
