”If there was a political party that addressed the discontent, it would have come up with an agenda. It would have mobilized the organization, it would have had visible leadership.”

After the explosion of the Gen-G movement, state power and geopolitical power came together: CK Lal

What you should know

Political analyst CK Lal has said that the Gen-G protests that took place in Nepal on Bhadra 23 and 24 were well managed.

In the fifth edition of Kantipur Conclave, on Monday, in the session 'Journey of Nepali Revolution: Review of the Past, Assessment of the Future', analyst Lal commented that the Gen-G movement is not about an agenda, but about a slogan.

Nepalis have been doing brand politics since the past, and Lal said that the Gen-G movement is a continuation of that. 'Nepalese people love brands, even if it is a fake from China, they should wear the brand. They should also take a brand in political matters. Now, what brand is taken is Gen-G. The Gen-G movement is not of Nepal, but of the young people. It started with protests. There was no capacity to manage the protests,' said Lal. 'The protests exploded when they could not be managed. When the explosion occurred, the state and geopolitical powers came together. They managed it well so that it did not turn into rebellion, movement or revolution.'

Lal said that since the Gen-G movement started with a slogan, it is pointless to ask what was achieved. 'The Gen-G movement started with a slogan, not an agenda.' Therefore, the question of what your agenda was and what was achieved is pointless. That was not the question. The question was dissatisfaction. There was a protest against dissatisfaction,' he said.

Lal said that the Gen-G movement in Nepal was due to corruption, Nepo Kids, and the three people playing musical chairs for 10 years. 'The dissatisfaction was widespread, it cannot be denied, but if there had been a political party to address the dissatisfaction, it would have come up with an agenda.' He mobilized the organization, had its visible leadership, could control it, could control the momentum, could make the direction positive, but it ended in an explosion of discontent,' he said.
