Gagan Kumar Thapa, a leader in favor of the Nepali Congress special general convention, has said that the Nepali Congress is not anyone's 'private company'.

Reacting strongly to the action taken against him by President Sher Bahadur Deuba, he made it clear that he would not resign just because someone removed him.

Addressing the closed session of the special general convention ongoing at Bhrikutimandap, Thapa reiterated that the party is not anyone's private property.

'We have heard that action has been taken against us. This party is not anyone's private company,' Thapa said, 'I have been a Congress member since I was in grade 9. I participated in the 2046 movement, and I even led the 2062/063 movement. I will not resign just because someone removed me.'

Commenting on the news that the Central Working Committee had expelled two general secretaries and a joint general secretary, Thapa asked, 'Did you expel me from my own house? This is not anyone's private firm.'

Thapa even admitted that he could not explain the matter to President Deuba. He revealed that Deuba met him this morning and proposed that ‘there will be a regular general convention in Baisakh, and I will become the president at that time.’

Urging not to worry about his and Bishwaprakash Sharma’s political future, Thapa said, ‘There is no need to worry about us. We are ready to take risks for party reforms.’

Stating that friends from different sectors are urging him to contest the election, Thapa also claimed that his political base is strong.
