As the special general convention of the Nepali Congress moves forward to elect a new leadership, President Sher Bahadur Deuba has begun consulting with legal experts.
After facing a legal crisis after the majority of the general convention delegates were seen opposing him, Deuba has started discussions with his close leaders and legal experts.
Deuba has started legal consultations with leaders including Shekhar Koirala and acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka at his private residence in Maharajgunj. Legal experts led by former Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati have arrived at the meeting called by Deuba. Sources have informed that another legal expert Yogendra Bahadur Adhikari has also participated.
Leaders from Shekhar's side, including Minendra Rijal and Jeevan Pariyar, have participated in the meeting.
The special general convention of the Nepali Congress has become oriented towards electing a new leadership. A closed session is currently underway in the hall at Bhrikutimandap as part of the general convention that has been ongoing in Kathmandu since Sunday at the call of General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma. General Secretary Sharma has submitted an organizational report in the closed session, while another General Secretary Thapa is also scheduled to submit a report.
The closed session has passed the Special General Convention Operating Procedures 2082. It includes provisions such as the proposals to be presented in the general convention and the formation of an election committee to select the central working committee.
As mentioned in the procedure, the two general secretaries can dissolve the central working committee in the closed session and propose the selection of a new working committee until the next regular general convention. Since the term of the working committee elected from the 14th general convention has ended, the leaders in favor of the special general convention say that there should be an immediate change of leadership and the election of Falgun 21.
