Supporters of the Nepali Congress, who have been demanding a special general convention, have surrounded the party's central office in Sanepa.
After the party's regular 15th general convention failed to meet its schedule, preparations for the special convention have intensified under the leadership of General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma. According to Article 17(2) of the constitution, more than 54 percent (2,488) of the convention delegates have submitted their signatures demanding a special convention, but the supporters are angry that the central leadership has ignored them even after three months.
The cadres in favor of the special convention have surrounded the central office and raised slogans. The supporters have booked a hall at Bhrikuti Mandap and are preparing to hold the special convention in mid-Poush. However, the establishment party has decided to move forward by moving the regular convention to Baisakh.
