Senior Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the central committee should call a special general convention based on consensus. In a discussion with more than 30 central members of the party at his own secretariat on Monday, he said that the candidates for the National Assembly and the House of Representatives should be finalized now.
Koirala also said that if the central committee convenes the general convention after discussing with the supporters of the special general convention after Magh 20, it will send a message of unity.
Similarly, he said that the Congress should not form an alliance with anyone in the House of Representatives elections. He said that even if the alliance wins two to four seats more in the direct elections, the votes will decrease in proportional representation and the Congress will suffer long-term losses.
Central member Pushpa Bhusal, who participated in the discussion, said that they are meeting top leaders to resolve the dispute within the party. She said that she does not belong to any party but is taking initiatives with everyone for a solution as the dispute within the party has worried her. Most of the central members who participated in the discussion emphasized that the special general convention should be converted into an election declaration meeting and go for the elections.
The central members in the discussion included leaders such as Chinakaji Shrestha, Dila Sangraula, Ramjanam Chaudhary, Udaya Shamsher Rana, Arjun Joshi, and others.
