Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma has said that the party will not split by calling a special general convention. Speaking to media persons at the party's central office in Sanepa ahead of the Central Working Committee meeting, General Secretary Sharma said that they have called the general convention in accordance with the statute.
He said, 'The Nepali Congress will not split, it will remain united. If anyone has any doubts that the Congress will split, they should not have.'
General Secretary Sharma also said that the general convention was called in accordance with the constitution. 'In this situation, it is necessary to go to the elections with a new leadership. That is why it could not be done at the scheduled time. A special general convention is the alternative,' he said.
He also said that they want the central committee and the working committee to decide on the special general convention in an institutional manner.
In the context of the failure to hold a regular general convention, the deadline set by the constitution, and the growing dissatisfaction with the leadership and policies, polarization has increased within the Congress regarding the special general convention.
General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma have decided to call a special general convention on Poush 27-29.
What does General Secretary Sharma say?
According to the statute, while doing any work, it does not break, it remains united. If anyone has doubts about remaining united, then they should not have those doubts. Many party friends have expressed doubts and I want to reassure everyone.
Secondly, in the current national situation, the Nepali Congress party should have held a general convention and formulated its leadership, policy and vision. For that, we fixed the date of the general convention. But it was limited to that date only, after which we issued a notice and informed.
